Spring Fling: The Great Gnome Hunt of Willow Creek

May 7, 2026 · City User

As the snow melts and flowers bloom, the residents of Willow Creek eagerly anticipate the town’s quirkiest tradition—The Great Gnome Hunt. Every spring, local artists craft dozens of colorful ceramic gnomes, each with its own unique design and name, and hide them throughout the town’s parks, streets, and businesses.

Participants, armed with a map and a keen eye, scour every nook and cranny in search of the elusive little statues. Some gnomes are easy to spot, while others require climbing, crawling, or even solving riddles provided by shop owners. The person who finds the most gnomes wins the coveted Golden Trowel Trophy and a year’s supply of locally grown honey.

Beyond the hunt, the event features live music, a flower market, and a “Gnome Adoption Booth,” where visitors can take home their own handcrafted gnome. The day ends with a community potluck at the town square, where winners are announced, and stories of near-misses and triumphant finds are shared.

Whether you’re a seasoned hunter or a first-time visitor, the Great Gnome Hunt is a springtime tradition that captures the charm and creativity of Willow Creek.
